Please Don’t Make Me Worse
A Poem in 50 Songs

Runtime: 3h 8min

It won’t be long now
before you make me worse
we work
                 with young blood
helicopter hearts
                         too close
dancing tango del fuego
                       imagining …
when your heart stops beating
you watch my booty swing
which has you thinking nasty things
like  Voy a tocarte toa’

and to me?
       you’re just a dream
                 one I contemplate all night
es un secreto que no lo dire
                          with a brimful of asha
I yield to this moment of surrender
                  awake, you’re a daydream
    & I admit it’s been a long time
since I’ve felt a higher devotion
since I’ve felt sunshine on my skin
since I’ve been ready to fall
right here, right now
           everything changed

Not sure if I’ve got a fever
or if I’ve got a man on my mind
but surely love is the drug
                                to make me feel fine
not black coffee and cigarettes
now is not the time to hasten death

I always knew
              how to get it faster
in this state of flux
                        but in the end
              grandpa’s groove
like Cobrastyle
    is the bad touch

If you’ve ever wondered
how to be a heartbreaker like me
don’t bother
                                 the halo I wear
is just a dream
              I’m sunny and sweet,
                                       a candy girl
round like the moon
               lonely too, so please,
                     my darling be home soon

Don’t let me be your bad habit
                        (or make you worse)

gun to my head
                          I admit I’m overkill
wondering if you’ll survive a wolf like me
with dread, let’s dance to joy division
when all my heroes are tired, I say
I wanna dance with somebody like you instead

Hit Me | V7

can’t stand
this life on repeat
can’t stand
when past lives meet
can’t stand
a repetitive motion
or this god-forsaken devotion
I can hardly stand so little
that I can barely brag
how I roll with these hard punches
every moment, each goddamn day
yet I can’t really complain
for my path is so pure
I can only rejoice
and slight suffering endure
still if I could
I’d give just one last stand
for a night – or a moment –
of holding your hand
because I
can’t stand
this life on repeat
can’t stand
when past lives meet
& these silly lives just can’t remember
all prior moments tender
and choose to accept defeat
can’t stand
this should be me

Affliction | V6

you say, winter is coming
I say, it’s already here
you see I yearn to fight
I see you learned to fear

we both are afflicted
we both are afraid
we both wish to flee
so all delusions we obey

incurable and debilitating
until, a cure IS found
release the attachment
or crash to the ground

you say, winter is here
I say, it’s already passing
you see I yearn to love
yet it’s pain I’m amassing

we both fight affliction
we both shall be set free
we both feel the spark
but just you hold the key

Obscurity | Session 16

Video & Poem inspired by “Her & The Sea,” song by CLANN

Uncertain are the times
unknown is the plot
does the shadow ever darken
where time cannot be bought

we hasten t’wards our doom
driven by attachment’s whip
we medicate our gloom
dying in delusions’ grip

In My Mind | Session 15

Lately I’ve been back in the forest, capturing a fraction of my experiences. Here is glimpse of my visions that demanded to be expressed to the music of CLANN. See the Youtube channel for more.

May your Saturday be filled with love, joy and expression!

In my mind

though light will rise,
first darkness falls
at the faerie court
they see it all

understanding should not
be confused with power
in the deathless state
we fearlessly devour

delusions

Book Recommendation | 2

I can’t wait to recommend Marcus Starr’s debut novel, Nora’s Curse – a quick-paced and comedic thriller featuring loveable bassist bartender and Canadian lead character, Nora, whose wish just might come true. But is that a good thing? Especially as she deals with competition at work and the fact that she’s possibly dating The Midnight Rambler?!

Aside from the fact that I can totally see this becoming a hilarious, exciting and addicting mini series on Netflix, I want to recommend this novel because I genuinely enjoyed reading it! I’m so tired of the same old stories and big name authors (appreciated, but exhausted). Nora’s Curse is something altogether different and yet familiar. You don’t broach the topic of wishes without the old adage coming up … yet this story never feels stale.

Starr weaves current issues into the background narrative making the novel relevant and easily captures readers’ suspension of disbelief. Parts of the novel make you wonder if you are enjoying a beach read or dancing with the devil. Get ready for sex, drugs, rock n’ roll, mayhem and maybe a bit of magic. (Or is it old time religion?)

You can find Nora’s Curse on Amazon or on December 18, grab a copy in person at Starr’s Book Launch in Ancaster!

12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
at the
Coach & Lantern Pub
384 Wilson St. E
Ancaster, ON

Did I mention there will be live music by Starr himself?

Hope to see you there – or that you can get your hands on a copy! Let’s bring this one to the screen.

12 Days of Christmas | Song 12

Happy Twelve Days of Christmas! A Christmas Countdown featuring my Christmas favourites (plus pictures of my foster kittens).

Merry Christmas! The day is finally here! Although these songs have been arranged in no particular order, I did save one of my most fun and perhaps religiously relevant songs for this special and holy twelfth day.

Introducing – if you’re not already familiar – the spectacular Christmas with Boney M. with one of my all time favourites, Mary’s Boy Child.

Follow up this bop of a holiday jam with When a Child is Born and Feliz Navidad to keep the party going. I remember rocking out to Feliz Navidad with my elementary school choir at the late Colonel John Butler School (which became Virgil Old Colony Christian School – what a name!).

12 Days of Christmas | Song 11

Happy Twelve Days of Christmas! A Christmas Countdown featuring my Christmas favourites (plus pictures of my foster kittens).

It’s Christmas Eve! Merry Christmas to all my German friends celebrating tonight! For me, I’m dreaming of a White Christmas … that can happen overnight, right? Does snow even still come to the Niagara Region before January?

We started with Bing Crosby and as this twelve day countdown draws to a close, I am thinking we’ll bring him back. For the first twelve or so years of my life, there is no contest what my favourite Christmas cassette tape was: White Christmas by Bing (I’ll admit his name confused me a little. Still haven’t seen anything like it.)

I have such a lovely memory of celebrating with my mom and watching the movie together. Take me back to the the time of those gorgeous dresses and fur muffs! (Just kidding… sort of) There goes that wistful yearning again 😉

The lovely Grace & Frankie wanted a White Christmas inside the house, so they emptied one of my ornaments all over the floor. After cleaning up the best I can, I’m still finding styrofoam “snowflakes” all over the place!

12 Days of Christmas | Song 9

Happy Twelve Days of Christmas! A Christmas Countdown featuring my Christmas favourites (plus pictures of my foster kittens).

On the ninth day of Christmas, I should reveal that I am a Michael Bublé fan… when it comes to Christmas music. How could I not be? I’m not a monster. And nothing is more delightful to my ears than Christmas (Baby Please Come Home).

I confess I also enjoy his rendition of Santa Baby.

12 Days of Christmas | Song 8

Happy Twelve Days of Christmas! A Christmas Countdown featuring my Christmas favourites (plus pictures of my foster kittens).

I think it’s time to recommend The Home Alone Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, and my favourite version of Carol of the Bells.

I also love White Christmas by Irving Berlin & The Drifters and the choir version of O Holy Night. I enjoy watching Home Alone once every three to five years. So while I won’t be revisiting the movie this Christmas, I might be back round to it next year.

The faces of Frankie 🙂
