Poetry Thirsty Thursday

Selfish self love

It is tempting to allow
false flattery to ripen pride,
despite our knowledge
that it’s born from a lie

It is tempting to perform
false charity to improve
a meaningless reputation –
what rock of suffering moved?

Self-cherishing is our sickness
the mind of a sneaky bastard
cunningly leading us to evil business
until virtuous focus is mastered

The Muse Revisits

Every spring,
            the muse returns with energy
     to her castle
     to open the secret corridors
     closed up all winter
                 –            only she knows
     the secluded passageways
hidden behind tapestry
             beneath growth
             between books

In spring she dares to whisper
for winter’s fortress, now melted away
       lays her skin’s secrets bare
               her privacy tethered in silk
    translucent in the light
hair of gold, breast of milk
       lips are loose, hips tight
  sins of youth, wrongs right
she kisses the mind
                   and spins her threads
                       day into night

Wild reflex

I am a wild animal
a structure is like a cage
I do not feel free in imagination
there is no longing to belong

I feel imprisoned by this other vision
I feel the enclosure around me
there was no escape
I must escape

I was once wild
the habits are hard to shake
the imprints are deep-rooted
though only small seedlings at surface
I am ruled by fear and concern
I long to run, having never learned

I am waiting to be released
like an animal waits
forgetting I have hands
forgetting I have keys

Unlucky

Good luck is non transferable –
even by charm.

Bad luck, on the other hand,
is completely sharable –
it’s cause for alarm!

Our addiction to misery
increases our suffering
our willingness to spread sorrow
keeps our happiness buffering

We exhaust our good karma
and make few more good effects
ostensibly wasting
what little time we have left

Action and effect,
so easy to contemplate
moment by moment
evidence reveals our fate
seems silly to hesitate
we don’t have the time to wait

Running always to our suffering
with attachment our choking leash
inappropriate attention manifesting
the nonsensical stories we must cease
for karmic seeds mix with these delusions
and quickly appear intense pain
prompting us to commit the same!
with familiarity our curse,
          and self-cherishing our bane

We must break the uncontrolled cycle
with continuous purification
and a strong determination
to realize our destiny,
        this karmic mind chemistry

Otherwise we will continue to suffer
unluckily, again and again
      by our own hand
while we keep blaming others

Spring rain washes ‘way
last year’s odd residuals
feelings that won’t stay

Problems with *insert starsign of choice*

You all are a bunch of
schizophrenic indecisive
enigmatic selfish hungry
insatiable unbalanced
malacting and cunning
idiotic, serious, rarely funny
absent humour, feigning grace
with your sloppy lies and messy place
completely missing the point
can’t handle booze or joint
dazed by your own reflection
beating Gemini’s narcissistic cares
obsessed with non-existent principles
confused why your vision’s not shared
victims of your own making!
at every opportunity, flaking!
discovered again and again faking!
When will you learn?
When will you stop blaming?
The world cannot gaslight your dreams
they are too impermanent it seems
you name your self-sabotage treason
and find yourself standing alone
rotting on your psychic throne
but when you’re proved wrong again
no responsibility is dared to be taken!
I hate to write and post this rant
but my mind is maddened with this chant
I know for this appearance I’ve created cause
so I say: can we just PAUSE
our delusions feel real and so we blame
instead of realizing we’re the same
water into water, madness into madness
air into air, you’re filled with sadness
name your grief and let it go
and build the courage and strength to know
you must open your heart
to the world that wounded you
let your nasty feelings depart
so you can be better too

Rivulet

How many times can I be
ripped open and restuffed
before the fabric can’t be resewn
before there is no thread to stitch
before I can’t be mended

How many times can a friendship break
before it must be ended
