New Year’s Promise

If you put your hand in fire
And you feel the burn of flame
Although the pain is karma
You must pull your hand away

When others appear to hurt us
We do so much the same
Although appearance cannot harm us
We still turn and walk away

Now I love and cherish others
To purify these seeds of pain
I will practice taking and giving
And pray and all beings do the same

Dare You

There is magic in the world
If you dare to see it
There is happiness in the world
If you dare to feel it
There is hope in the world
If you dare to force it
There is love in the world
If you dare to wish it
There is faith in your heart
If you dare to test it
There is compassion in your heart
If you dare to risk it
There wisdom in your heart
If you dare to mind it
There is joy in the world
If you dare to celebrate it

seasonal grasping

The hum of cicadas is gone
replaced by rustling leaves
an overcooked sun slices
a chilled-wine breeze
cutting through and pressing
against me like a lusty body
celestial and far away, still
grazing skin with intimate familiarity

May the imputed I rely
upon this mere meat sack
only long enough to satisfy
the necessary attainments
then may I move on effortlessly
to the next nest, to abandon all
to abandon none

Controlled Demolition

Everyone expects

      A bang!

           A surprise!

     Shock and chaos
        reflected in wide blue eyes

But falling in its own footprint

The detritus simply smokes

Blinding our eyes
                little surprise
      we can’t realize

The truth of the state
                 which we create

Too close we’ve come
        too far we’ve been
we now seek something in between

In degenerate times
it is impossible to build purely

Follow the path out
and do not rejoice in death

make good use of this little time left
