Antidote

I do not want vacations
I do not want jewels
I don’t mind bouquets of flowers
but someone must take them out
when they begin to rot and stink
and I am busy spending ink

I don’t want riches
I don’t want gold
I don’t mind pearls
but that’s because they’re a symbol of purity
       – at least that’s what I’m told
I don’t want to hoard for when I’m old

I don’t want too much trouble
I’ll just take enough
to prepare me, make me stronger
for when things inevitably get tough

I don’t want to be a mark
I don’t want to be a thief
I don’t want to receive more
          than my share of beef

I don’t want my own car
I don’t want my own house
I don’t want to own pets
  or really anything else!

It may sound a little lazy
it may even sound lame
but I’ll take a peaceful life
unburdened by such wanton things

It’s all really perverse –
      this cruel misunderstanding
of how reality exists
         manically apart and magnetically banding

I do not want the wool
pulled over my eyes
I do not want to ignore
the suffering, the cries

I wish to be free from it all
and collect only the treasure of Dharma
for there is no practice too small
and all experiences are karma

I do not want vacations
I do not want jewels
I desire no relationship
I no longer suffer fools
with all my mind in refuge
every moment, every day
it’s incredible how quickly
the three poisons fade away

significant irrelevance

the suffering of mediocrity
   may force descent
into obscurity
        creating happiness
in lack      a simplicity
   now tempting
soothing
   a balm for chaos
out of reach
        while chasing fame’s
   firefly light    —    too brief

but that’s all he had
    no eyes on me
and false transcendence
    on his teeth
a crooked smile
    that sucked you in,
        that devilish grin
and the way with words
   and pen

maddening
        my own seeds
of frustration
     anger
               ripening

never free
   until the causes
        are purified:    undo
unhappiness-to-be

enter —
         the space and freedom
of mediocrity

Become the Jedi Master of Your Life

Anger is a poison that eats away at your life giving energy winds.

Why would you indulge in such an addiction? What benefit is there?

All those giving up anger in turn for peace and love, for better health, better relationships, rejoice! And do not lose faith. Challenges will come.

The experience of healing anger is not linear. It is not better, better, better. It is many different things for different people. Sometimes better, bad, better, better, bad, better, better, worse you’ve ever been, better, best yet.

Not always. The only thing that matters is never giving up.

Become the Jedi Master of your own mind and respond to your thoughts and feelings appropriately.

May your path be blessed.

The world tears open | Session 9

Today, the world is tearing open

Everyone I know is crying
women, men
this is what our anger becomes
when our fire runs out and
we realize what we’ve done

This is how we bare our souls
with honest feeling
in safety
why should we alone endure our gief?

In the fray, the pages rend –
this time not my hand to blame –
yet the rip reveals remembrance
that recollection cannot heal

Bearing loss, the heartache felt
heavy as a pack
carried uphill over many days
heavier now,
as if weight was added still

Sorrow, the melancholy blues
I haven’t felt you in a while
and here you are anew

We may wallow in anguish, woe —
briefly — as we fall into
the cracks
as night chases the sun away
we can wish for tomorrow’s gift:
a day that destroys our dismay

permanently.
